On March 21st, Dr. Curt Ickes gave a presentation entitled "The Characteristics of Mentally Tough Players" to
coaches, psychology students, baseball, and softball players at Wheeling
Jesuit University. His talk focused on how athletes can use mental
game skills to improve athletic performance. As part of the discussion,
Dr. Ickes spoke about the psychological research supporting this
techniques and participants had an opportunity to participate in a
number of hands-on activities.
One note of interest is that both the softball and baseball
programs at Wheeling Jesuit have ties to former Ashland University
student-athletes. Kelli Williams, head softball coach, is a 2008 graduate of AU and was a standout softball player for the Eagles. Aaron Hilt, a recent AU graduate and star pitcher for the baseball team, serves as an assistant coach in their baseball program.
