How to Survive and Thrive in the Graduate School Application Process (2020 edition)

The University of Chicago Psychology department will hold a webinar on the process of applying to graduate programs on Thursday, October 22 at 4pm (Chicago time zone). We will provide information on how to write a good application generally and also specific info about the UChicago program. All students interested in applying to PhD programs in Psychology or related fields are welcome. You must register to attend, but there is no charge.  The registration link can be found here.

Drew Saylor Speaks to Sport Psychology Class

Drew Saylor, the manager of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Los Angeles Dodgers), spoke to Dr. Curt Ickes’ Sport Psychology class this past week. He discussed the role the mental game plays in the peak performance of professional baseball players and how this type of training takes place throughout the minor leagues. Drew grew up in Wadsworth and played at Kent State University before being drafted by the Marlins. He later played for the Lake Erie Crushers where Dr. Ickes was the Player Development Specialist. Following his tenure at the Crushers, Coach Saylor went on to manage in the Colorado Rockies system before being hired by the Dodgers in 2015.

Calling all Freshmen!!

The Ashland University Career Services Center will present 21 Suggestions for College Freshmen on Thursday, October 26th at 6:00pm in the Student Center Auditorium.  Lenroy Jones, Executive Director of the Center will talk about ways to make college a life-changing experience for you!  Please consider attending (even if you're not a freshman)....refreshments will follow in the Career Services Center.  Hope to see you there!

LinkedIn Workshop Tuesday, October 3rd

The Career Services Center will be hosting a LinkedIn Workshop on Tuesday, October 3rd at 6:30pm in the Student Center Auditorium.  The workshop will feature Tom Poole, Senior Vice President and Talent Acquisition Manager for the Huntington National Bank.  Learn ways that you can build a professional on-line presence at this workshop!

Psi Chi Co-Sponsors Lecture by New York Artist

Psi Chi, along with the AU Art Department, Coburn Gallery, Ashland Center for Nonviolence, and Student Activities,  is co-sponsoring a lecture by artist Traci Molloy as part of the Coburn Gallery's "Power of the Press" event. The lecture will will be Thursday, October 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Ridenour Room in Dauch. Ms. Molloy will also join with community members and AU students to construct an art project on the theme of bullying. Dr. Christian will speak on "Stress and Immune Function during Pregnancy: An Emerging Focus in Mind-Body Medicine" at 3:00 p.m. in the Ronk Lecture Hall in the Schar College of Education Building. This event is free and open to the public. Dr. Christian completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri before earning her Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Clinical Psychology from The Ohio State University. After completing her degrees, she returned to OSU in 2008 as a member of the Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research as a clinical health psychologist. She currently holds appointments an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Obstetrics/Gynecology at OSU. Her main area of research is in stress and immune responses.
