MS in Psychology - Western Kentucky University - seeking applicants

The Department of Psychological Sciences at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky is seeking applicants to its M.S. in Psychology – Psychological Sciences concentration (http://www.wku.edu/psychological-sciences/grad/ps/index.php). The program is a two-year, 37-hour graduate program designed to help students acquire the quantitative and methodological skills needed to successfully compete for entry into a Ph.D. program in Psychology or a related area. It also serves students who are looking for research experience and training they can use in jobs that require quantitative and methodological skills beyond the undergraduate level. Many graduates of the program have been accepted to prestigious doctoral programs or work in companies, research institutes, and laboratories across the country. 

The M.S. program offers research opportunities in a number of areas including learning and memory, perception, neuroscience, child development, clinical science, cognitive aging, social psychology, language, and emotion (http://www.wku.edu/psychological-sciences/research.php). Students work closely with faculty on their master’s theses. The curriculum is designed to advance graduate students’ quantitative and methodological skills, to bolster knowledge in the core areas of psychological science, and to foster professional development. Students are encouraged to develop their speaking and writing skills, and many collaborate with faculty on peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. In addition, students may obtain a graduate certificate in Scientific Data Analytics.  In the last 5 years, 100% of our students received financial support through assistantships and/or tuition waivers.

Summer Job Opportunities at Akron Rotary Camp

The Akron Rotary Camp is looking for staff that want to make a difference in the lives of children with special needs. Our counselors are the people that help make camp so magical, as they spend all of their time making sure our campers are safe, participating in activities, and most importantly having fun. Our counselors spend the most time working directly with our campers and, therefore, have the opportunity to make the biggest impact on them. Our counselor to camper ratio is 1:3 and our staff are expected to participate in, as well as facilitate, all of the activities our campers participate in. Our counselors also become experts in adapting and modifying activities so that everyone, regardless of ability level, is able to participate in the activities. Also, our counselors are responsible for the care and well-being of our campers. This means they may have to help campers with feeding, personal hygiene, as well as managing behaviors.  We are seeking people to fill overnight positions with the camp running from Sunday through Friday afternoons.  Staff training will be from May 26th to June 6th, and the last day of camp will be August 7.  If you're interested in pursuing this opportunity, please contact Kyle Blincow at kyleb@akronvmca.org.   

Research Fellowship Opportunity

Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is offering one two-year research fellowship (tuition waiver, yearly stipend of $26,000, and health insurance) and one scholarship (tuition waiver for the 1st year, 2nd year contingent on academic performance and funding availability) in its new Consumer Behavior and Decision Sciences Master of Science program starting in fall 2020. The program is designed for students with a background in the social sciences, business, and/or a quantitative field, seeking to master applied behavioral and consumer research methodologies and analytic techniques. Students learn to synthesize theory in order to perform applied behavioral research, evaluate data to uncover actionable insights, and leverage those insights to shape behavior in the real world. The program fosters innovation, focusing on emergent and advanced research methodologies and analytic techniques, providing graduates the skills necessary to stay competitive now and into the future. Through an applied research project in connection with industry, the public sector, or community organizations, students produce solid evidence of their ability to conduct transformative research, setting them apart from their peers as they enter the job market.

The research fellow will serve as the lab manager for Harrisburg University’s Consumer Insights Research Lab (CIRL), while the scholarship recipient will act as a part-time research assistant. CIRL’s mission is to deliver a superior experiential learning opportunity to students while meeting local industry and public sector need for applied behavioral and consumer research. Award recipients will be immersed in every aspect of CIRL’s operations, gaining unique experience in organizing and carrying out a variety of applied behavioral research projects for our industry and public sector partners.

Ideal candidates will be creative problem solvers, possess solid quantitative research skills (e.g., familiarity with research design, basic statistics, and experimental programming), and have a strong interest in using applied behavioral research to influence the world around them. Psychology Students Present Research at APS

Three recent AU Psychology graduates presented research they conducted at while AU at the Association for Psychological Science Conference on May 25th. Natalie Bisignano, Hannah Drake, and Tiffany Pryce presented their work, "Women Endorse Their Own Stereotyped Preferences: A Replication of Conrad and Scheve (2017)" during the Saturday morning poster session. The conference was held in Washington, D.C. The students' travel was supported by a Provost Student Research Grant.

A number of psychology students presented their research at the annual Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (URCA) symposium that was held on the Ashland University campus on April 9.  The psychology department was well-represented at this year's symposium, as 14 students presented their research, and each of the five members of the psychology department faculty served as sponsors.  Participating students were Nicholas Bloxsom, Kaylei Ruffing, Dana Awlia, Mallorie Harding, Bryce McClish, Elizabeth Takacs, Miranda Bielawski, Katherine Conley, Savannah Lewis, Tiffany Smolinski, Jessica Wilson, Hannah Drake, Natalie Bisignano, and Tiffany Pryce.  Excellent job!
